Wacken Metal Battle Africa fundraiser show set for Nairobi

Kenya's Carnivore will host the Wacken Metal Battle Africa 2026 Nairobi Showcase on Saturday, 14 March 2026, a fundraising gig designed to help Chovu cover the steep travel and logistics bill of reaching the Wacken Metal Battle Africa finals in Johannesburg on 6 June 2026.

Carnivore in Nairobi, Kenya, will host the Wacken Metal Battle Africa 2026 Nairobi Showcase on 14 March, a fundraising gig aimed at helping Chovu cover the costs of travelling to the Wacken Metal Battle Africa 2026 finals on 6 June 2026. Irony Destroyed, finalists in 2025, are confirmed as special guests.

Chovu are a Nairobi-based post-black metal band, formed in 2018, and they lean into African mysticism and mythology in both image and themes. Their most recent full-length is Ufalme Wa Mali, which the band released digitally on 28 August 2025, following a run of singles from the same tracklist including “Ogalo”.

The Wacken Metal Battle circuit is built around local heats that feed into bigger stages. Acts face off in their countries before progressing to regional finals. The ultimate goal is Wacken Open Air, held in Germany.

For many metal musicians across Africa, winning a qualifier barely covers half the struggle. The real challenge lies in logistics. Transportation, lodging, missing days of employment, transporting instruments and equipment. It all demands finances most groups simply don’t have.

This Nairobi event serves a dual purpose. A performance space, yes, but also a gathering to collect funds, ensuring Chovu can take the next step while sharing the stage with Irony Destroyed for added impact. Each riff helping fuel the journey forward.
