Mad God are back with another look at An Age of Ash. After “Left to Rot”, the title track arrives with the same sense of weight and control, but it also opens the door wider into the album’s world. The band describe the new release as a concept album set in a collapsing kingdom, built around corruption, ancient evils and the slow breakdown of whatever hope was left.
Mad God have been around since 2014, and on earlier releases they pulled from cosmic horror and true crime. This time they have gone for something more cohesive, with a full narrative running through the album.
An Age of Ash was recorded live at Helsing Studios, with the core instrumentation tracked together and no click track. According to the band, most of the album was captured in full takes, with solos played live in the moment, then followed by separate vocal sessions. Danny Helsing, who joined on bass in 2021, also handled the mixing and mastering.
The full album is set for release on 27 March and will feature five tracks: “Godforsaken (The Pact)”, “Left to Rot”, “An Age of Ash”, “Chosen” and “The Price”.
