Anas Ibn Malek Abid has released a new single, “Where We Fall”, now available on YouTube and all major streaming platforms.
The track began as Abid’s entry for the Shure/SSL competition hosted by La Boîte Noire du Musicien. The challenge asked musicians to build a full composition around a drum track written and recorded by Boris Le Gal, known for his work with Sun, Betraying The Martyrs, Chimp Spanner and Dropdead Chaos. Abid won the competition, but later returned to the piece and rebuilt it into a fuller version.
Speaking about the track, he explains: “‘Where We Fall’ started as my entry for the Shure/SSL competition hosted by La Boîte Noire du Musicien, where the challenge was to build a full composition around a drum track written and recorded by Boris Le Gal (Sun, Betraying The Martyrs, Chimp Spanner, currently Dropdead Chaos). I ended up winning the competition, but the track kept pulling at me afterward, so I went back in and reworked it, keeping the main theme and the breakdown from the original session but building a fuller story around them. The version now opens with samples of children playing, an allegory for childhood, that starting point before life complicates things. The main theme that follows represents my personal journey, the path I’ve walked as an artist and as a person. The breakdown is where things fall apart: it’s meant to embody failure, the moments of doubt and collapse everyone goes through. And when the main theme returns at the end, it’s the rebirth, coming back stronger after the fall, which is really where the title comes from.”
“Where We Fall” is available now on YouTube, Spotify, Deezer and Apple Music.
