Slam Dank Fest has announced Massacre (USA) as a headline booking for Vol. 2, marking the band’s South African debut. The Johannesburg stop is locked in as part of an official Slam Dank camping weekend in Kempton Park, running from 15–17 May 2026.
Cape Town is also confirmed as the second of the two South African shows, with full details still to be shared. The festival says South African supporting bands will be announced soon, alongside production built around the camping-weekend format and the wider festival bill.
Massacre are part of that first wave of Florida death metal: formed in Tampa in 1984, with vocalist Kam Lee at the centre of the band’s identity, and early ties to the Death/Mantas family tree through players who moved between those projects as the scene took shape. Their name is still most closely linked to From Beyond (1991), recorded at Morrisound and released through Earache, a record that sits right in the classic early-’90s US death metal sound. The band have had long breaks and plenty of lineup changes over the years, but they’ve kept coming back in different forms, and recent activity has been built around Lee carrying the banner again while mixing the old material with newer releases from the band’s current run.
