Madagascar’s SLA.ID have released their first official music video, choosing “Aza”, from their album Kifika, for the band’s video debut.
Released on 6 August, the video was directed by Heryfield Mathilda Bezara and Soa Lullaby, with colour grading by Tsiory “Gosp” Ramanambohitra. The track was recorded and mastered by Jersy “Poum” Razafindrabe at E-rec Studio in Antananarivo.
Speaking exclusively to AFRICA.ROCKS, SLA.ID explained that the story behind “Aza” centres on young people trying to escape a difficult family environment and find their own direction.
“The song literally tells the story of kids growing up and trying to find their own way, to manage life as best they can and escape the harsh authority of toxic parents. And that’s basically what we can see in the video. This song fits perfectly with the main subject of the album, which is the choice to move away from an unbearable situation. From a wider angle, the song is about anyone who wants to get away from any form of toxic authority. That’s the more political view.”
“Aza” appears on Kifika, an album that moves between SLA.ID’s nu metal foundation and other influences, including reggae and more melodic passages.
The video is available now through the band’s YouTube channel.
