Drown in Sulphur sign with Noble Demon

Italian blackened deathcore band Drown in Sulphur have signed with Noble Demon and released "New Moon Rising on Florence", the first single from their forthcoming EP, Strix.

Drown in Sulphur have joined the Noble Demon roster and announced Strix, a new five-track EP set to be released on 11 September.

The first single, “New Moon Rising on Florence”, is accompanied by an official music video. The track reflects a change in the band’s sound following recent line-up changes, with fewer symphonic elements and a stronger focus on deathcore, hardcore and black metal.

“With ‘New Moon Rising on Florence’, we wanted to capture a sound that is entirely authentic and recognisable to the Drown in Sulphur name,” the band explain. “Following our recent line-up changes, we entered a period of deep reflection. We knew we needed a change, a return to something rawer and more grounded in our origins, yet adapted for the modern era.”

“We stripped back the symphonic layers to let the pure, unfiltered aggression take over. The result is a track that feels incredibly organic and devastating.”

The song sits at the centre of the concept developed across Strix. The EP draws from biblical, esoteric and dystopian themes, with Masonic references running through the story.

“Thematically, this song and the wider EP dive deep into esoteric, biblical and dystopian contexts, heavily intertwining Masonic references,” the band continue. “It all revolves around the mythological figure of the ‘Strix’, the ancient nocturnal bird of ill omen.”

“Florence becomes the backdrop for this dark ritual, signalling a new, rebellious vision of the world where ancient horrors resurface in modern times.”

Drown in Sulphur are the first deathcore band to sign with Noble Demon. Label CEO Patrick Walch says he had followed the group for some time and saw the signing as an opportunity to expand the label further into extreme metal.

“I’ve been following this band for quite a while since, personally, I adore deathcore and Drown in Sulphur’s sound is outstanding,” he says. “Intense and unique, right in your face and the right match for everyone who digs death metal, metalcore, modern metal and anything in between.”

The band also commented on the new partnership.

“We’re delighted to announce our partnership with Noble Demon Records, a new, growing and professional label. We can’t wait to embark on a new journey and a new adventure with their help and support.”

“There will be lots of news and, above all, new music on the way.”

Formed in Milan in 2014, Drown in Sulphur gained wider attention through early singles including “An Epilogue to the Arrogant” and “Blackwind”. Their catalogue includes Sulphur Cvlt from 2021, Dark Secrets of the Soul from 2024 and Vengeance from 2025.
