Wonderboom set 30th anniversary Wonderfest in Johannesburg

Johannesburg rock veterans Wonderboom will celebrate 30 years as a band with Wonderfest on 25 April 2026 at Sognage, with Springbok Nude Girls confirmed and more acts still to be announced.

Sognage has announced Wonderfest, a 30th anniversary show for Wonderboom, landing on Saturday, 25 April 2026 in Johannesburg. The event runs from 16:00 to 23:30, is strictly no under-18s, and tickets start at R180 via Quicket.

If you’ve dipped into South African rock over the last thirty years, Wonderboom stands as a key piece of that legacy. Born in 1996, centered on Martin “Cito” Otto, Martin Schofield, and Wade Williams, later adding drummer Jonathan Bell. Their origins? Classic 90s Johannesburg. Rising from an underground scene, briefly using a cobbled-together moniker, then snagging “Wonderboom” from a roadside sighting near Kroonstad.

They’ve endured, becoming more than just a flashback. A string of albums and genuine achievements such as multiple South African Music Award nominations, a win in South Africa’s Global Battle of the Bands in 2004, and a second-place finish at the international final in London. More recently, their catalogue has kept moving, with 25 marking their quarter-century and Hard Mode arriving in 2024.

More announcements soon.
