Egypt’s Metal Blast Festival turns 15 and plans year-round shows

Metal Blast Festival, one of Cairo’s longest-running heavy music platforms, is marking 15 years since its 2011 launch and it's shifting from a single annual event to a broader calendar that includes smaller shows across the year, plus one flagship festival.

Metal Blast Festival has announced a new chapter as it celebrates 15 years of activity in Egypt’s heavy music space. Founded in 2011, the Cairo-based platform is using the anniversary to outline what changes next, starting with how often the project will be present on the ground.

The biggest shift is the calendar. Instead of centring everything on one annual date, Metal Blast says it will run multiple smaller-scale events throughout the year, creating more regular chances for emerging bands, new talent, and the local underground scene to get in front of crowds. One main large-scale Metal Blast Festival will still take place each year as the flagship event, but it will now sit inside a wider schedule.

Metal Blast also says it is bringing back its educational music workshops, returning to a practical, community-facing side of the project alongside live events.

Finally, the organisation is entering a new branding phase. Updated visuals, a 15-year anniversary identity, and future event dates and lineup announcements will be shared gradually later this year, with more details to follow.
