GOATBOi release horror-inspired new single “LEATHERFACE”

The Johannesburg trio turn a track that began as drum 'n' bass into an alt-metal and goth-rock tribute to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

South African alternative metal band GOATBOi have released their new single, “LEATHERFACE”. The track arrived on 15 July and is now available to stream online.

The song began in a different form before changing as the three-piece brought it into their live set. Speaking exclusively to AFRICA.ROCKS, vocalist and bassist Sino explained:

“‘LEATHERFACE’ initially started out as a horror-themed drum ‘n’ bass track. When we started playing it live, it took on more of an alt-metal and goth-rock feel, which we’re all pretty stoked about. The song is an ode to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre film franchise, with its main antagonist giving the track its name.”

Based in Johannesburg, GOATBOi bring together alternative metal with influences from death metal, electronic music, hip hop, indie rock, jazz, punk and pop. Their music is built around abrupt shifts in style, heavy breakdowns and an interest in pushing beyond a single genre.
