MYSANTHRIUM release debut single “Great Slumber”

Cape Town doom-death newcomers MYSANTHRIUM have released their debut single “Great Slumber”, the first warning shot from their forthcoming 3-track EP, 'TRIUMVIRATE I', due later in 2026.

Cape Town’s MYSANTHRIUM have dropped their first single, “Great Slumber”, released on Friday 30 January 2026. It’s the opening track from a 3-track EP due later in 2026, titled TRIUMVIRATE I.

The single landed at the end of January, and it should’ve been up here sooner. February turned into one of those months where the site is all deadlines and catch-up, and a few things slipped down the list. I don’t love running news late, but I’d rather post it in March than let a strong local release disappear because I was busy. So here it is, properly.

MYSANTHRIUM describe themselves as a 3-piece musical art project playing Doomed Death Metal, built around the idea of serving an “Ancient Entity”. The band name comes from “misanthrope” – MYSANTHRIUM being the spiritual element of misanthropy – with the Entity’s hatred aimed at modern humanity and what it’s doing to the earth.

That concept carries into the live set, where masks and outfits are part of the sermon. The project started in February 2022, and their first sermon took place on 2 August 2025 at the inaugural Slam Dank Fest in Johannesburg.

“Great Slumber” was recorded at Paradigm Audio, engineered/produced/mixed by Jethro Harris, and mastered by Mike Zietsman. Proudly South African, top to bottom.
