The Rig Rundown section on AFRICA.ROCKS documents the tools behind the music, in your own words. It is a space for musicians to talk about their instrument, their setup, and the real-life route that got them there, whether you play guitar, bass, drums, keys, traditional instruments, horns, strings, or something in between.
Why we ask for detail
Gear details (brands and models) are required. The point is accuracy. When you name the exact model, we can link directly to the right product in the article, and readers can understand your setup clearly.
Please include, whenever possible:
- Brand + model (example: Shure SM58, Boss DS-1, Focusrite Scarlett 2i2)
- For plugins: developer + plugin name (and version if it matters)
- For guitars and basses: model + pickup set (if you know it)
- For drums: kit model, plus heads, cymbals, hardware brands/models
- For vocals: mic, cables, wireless or in-ears, preamps, and any effects
If you do not know the exact model, share the closest info you can. Photos help.
If you play multiple instruments
If you are a multi-instrumentalist, pick one instrument for this submission. You can always submit another story later for a different setup.
Language and editing
You can submit your story in English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, or Arabic. If you submit in another language, we will do our best to help with translation where possible. Either way, we will edit for clarity and fluent English, while keeping your voice intact.
Photos
Please include at least 2-3 high-quality photos where we can clearly see you and your instrument. Live photos are welcome. If a photographer should be credited, include those details.
How the process works
After you submit, we review everything and shape it into a clean, readable feature. Publishing can take several days or, in some cases, a couple of weeks. When your story goes live, we will email you using the address you provided.
Transparency on affiliate links
To help sustain AFRICA.ROCKS, we may use affiliate links where possible (for example, linking to Thomann if the gear is available there). If a reader clicks and buys, AFRICA.ROCKS may earn a small commission at no extra cost to them.
Community standards
AFRICA.ROCKS does not support or promote racism, xenophobia, hate, or intolerance. Artists, bands, or individuals who openly support such ideologies will not be featured.
If you want to take part, use the Gear Submission form and tell your story.
