Algerian metal band DUSK have released their new single ‘My Name Is Dahmer’, continuing the darker psychological direction that will shape their forthcoming EP, Man Made Monster.
Despite its title, DUSK say the song is not intended as a celebration of Jeffrey Dahmer or his crimes. Instead, the name is used as part of a wider look at the darker parts of human behaviour: “‘My Name Is Dahmer’ is not about glorifying Jeffrey Dahmer or his crimes,” the band told AFRICA.ROCKS exclusively. “The name is symbolic of the darkness that can exist behind an ordinary human face, the hidden side of human nature that we often choose to ignore.”
That idea will continue across Man Made Monster, an EP concerned with how people can be shaped by what happens to them and the world around them: “The song is part of our upcoming EP, Man Made Monster, which explores how monsters can be shaped by trauma, society, human nature and their environment.”
DUSK had already begun discussing this direction earlier in the year. In an interview with AFRICA.ROCKS in June, the band described The New Land as a rebirth and said the material that followed would move further into human psychology and the darker aspects of human nature.
The New Land, released in 2023, marked DUSK’s return after a long period of inactivity and established the groove-heavy sound they have continued to develop.
“For DUSK, this single represents our current direction: darker, more aggressive and more focused on the psychological side of humanity”, the band comments. “It is another step in the evolution of the band and the world we are building with Man Made Monster.”
‘My Name Is Dahmer’ is out now, with Man Made Monster due to follow.
