Cape Town’s The Medicine Dolls have released a new single, ‘Twisted By The Sound’, alongside its official music video, which premiered today, 25 September.
The track follows ‘Tip The Waitress’, released earlier this year and the band describes the new song simply as “a bit of punk filth out of South Africa”.
The accompanying video was written and directed by Ryan Kruger, with Dylan Marriott serving as director of photography and Stephen Du Plessis handling the edit. Visual effects were created by 2plus3 Post, with Kitso Monare as colourist, Wandi Morley as key grip, Mudi Khangale as cine assistant and Kyle Greyvenstein as assistant.
Kruger has already worked with The Medicine Dolls this year, directing the video for ‘Tip The Waitress’. That single was recorded at Atomic Studios in Cape Town with producer Matthew Fink, a long-time collaborator with the band.
The Medicine Dolls formed in Cape Town in 2016 around Greg Allan and Bex Nicholas. Their early material drew heavily from 1970s underground rock, post-punk and garage music, with the band releasing several independent EPs before signing with South African label Just Music for their debut full-length, Filth and Wisdom, in 2020.
‘Twisted By The Sound’ is available now on streaming platforms, with the official video on The Medicine Dolls’ YouTube channel.
