Leper King have released “Nomad”, the first track from their debut full-length album Sound of Stones.
The Tunisian band revealed the full cover for the album alongside the single, with artwork created by Shereef Musik. “Nomad” was recorded by Leper King at Delia Studio with the help of Sélim Achour, then mixed and mastered by Alaa Marnissi at Sonic Bloom Studios.
Speaking exclusively to AFRICA.ROCKS, Elyes Kabous described “Nomad” as the first step into the record: “‘Nomad’ is the door of the album,” Kabous said. “A slow build, a long horizon, the first step of a journey. Sound of Stones is a psychedelic descent with stoner-heavy sections that pull you deeper,” he said. “Six tracks, over 45 minutes, hypnotic riffs, weighted endings, the patient kind of loud.”
Kabous also said the band tried to keep the album close to the way Leper King sound live: “We tried to record it the way we play it live: loud, patient, and a little ritualistic,” he added. “‘Nomad’ opens the door. The rest of the album is what waits behind it.”
For Kabous, the single also marks the first public glimpse of material the band have spent years shaping: “For us, this isn’t just the first single. It’s the first time the world hears something we’ve spent years building. Sound of Stones is the record that defines us going forward.”
Leper King marked the release with an album showcase at B7L9 in La Marsa. Another track from Sound of Stones is expected in the coming weeks.
