Tunisia’s JIBREEL releases debut single “Alhowa” with official video

Blackened Oriental Death Metal project JIBREEL has released its debut single, “Alhowa”, alongside an official music video.

AFRICA.ROCKS got to it the usual way: through people. Hamma from Znous shared the video while we were emailing about his latest interview, and it landed with that simple message behind most good recommendations – watch this.

JIBREEL is led by Tunis-born, Milan-based musician Ouassim Amdouni. “Alhowa” sits in blackened death metal, but it pulls in Middle Eastern melody and spiritual atmosphere. The song is written around the idea of spiritual metamorphosis, but it keeps its eyes on power, domination, and the stories societies tell themselves to justify violence, and it’s framed as a response to oppression, colonialism, and systemic violence.

In the project’s own words: “Music as resistance. Memory as a weapon.”

The video was directed and produced by Lorenzo Avanzi (AVZ Studios), with scenario and storyboard by Amdouni. Mixing and mastering is by Alexander Lapko.
