Chovu call on Africa to wake up in new “Eloi Eloi Lama Sabachthani” video

Kenyan blackened shamanic band Chovu have released a new video for "Eloi Eloi Lama Sabachthani", taken from "Ufalme Wa Mali", the seven-track album they put out on 28 August 2025. The band are presenting the clip as the piece that closes that chapter.

Chovu have released a new video for “Eloi Eloi Lama Sabachthani”, a track from 2025’s Ufalme Wa Mali, and they are sending it out with a clear political charge. Presented as part of closing that album chapter, the clip is tied to a statement about missionary religion, stolen land and the need for Africa to wake up.

The text attached to the video speaks about missionaries arriving with the Bible, Africans losing their land, and prayer being used as a tool of submission while power changed hands.

That also fits the wider world of Ufalme Wa Mali. Chovu built that record around history, empire and memory, drawing on the Mali Empire and the Timbuktu era while keeping the music rooted in a darker, more confrontational space.
