After years of line-up changes, stylistic shifts and work on original material, Obscure Season are finally preparing to step onto the stage for the first time.
The band began in 2019 and spent the following years trying to establish both their sound and the right line-up. Their music moved through black metal, doom and sludge before arriving at the modern death metal direction they currently pursue.
The promoters behind Howling Carnival explained the band’s history: “The band started back in 2019, and since then they’ve had quite a few different members and experimented with several styles of metal. They went from black metal to doom, then sludge, and eventually to the modern death metal sound they have today. Throughout those years, they were basically trying to find their style, their own path and the right line-up that would allow them to leave their own mark on the local music scene. They’ve been working on their own songs, and now they’re working on their second EP, called AVA.”
Obscure Season’s first live appearance will take place at Howling Carnival: The Break-In on Saturday, 5 September at Studio B52 in Tunis. The bill also includes Twisted Reflection and Guros Inferzil from Guros. Tickets cost 25 TND.
Speaking exclusively to AFRICA.ROCKS, the show promoters explained the idea behind the event: “So basically, we’re here for a second live event. It will actually be the ‘Break-In’ for the Howling Carnival project, which is why we named it that. We expect people to headbang, enjoy themselves and mosh with the bands. We haven’t gone silent. We were watching, and now it’s our time to break in.”
The event is organised by the Howling Carnival team, Aymen Guedouar and Sxxhaib, with support from Menwild Studio and 2WorldsMetal. The poster was designed by Bayremlikebayrem.
For Obscure Season, the night will mark the first public performance of a project that has spent several years developing behind the scenes, while work continues on AVA.
