South African slamming deathcore band Vulvodynia have released their new single “Twin Tyrants”, the first studio recording to feature new vocalist Maya Pobst. The track is out now worldwide via Unique Leader Records, accompanied by a visualiser.
Pobst joined the band earlier this year following an open audition process and subsequently completed her first European run with Vulvodynia. “Twin Tyrants” was written only after she became a member, making it the first material created by the current line-up.
Speaking exclusively to AFRICA.ROCKS, guitarist Luke Haarhoff explained: “We only started writing ‘Twin Tyrants’ after Maya joined, so that was a complete team effort.”
The band also introduced the song live during their recent European dates before its official release. Haarhoff added: “Previewing the song before release definitely helped us see what the crowd reaction would be like, at the very least. So now that the song is finally out and people can get to know it better, hopefully we’ll see some people screaming the lyrics back at us at the next show!”
The single follows Vulvodynia’s 2024 album Entabeni and marks the first recorded indication of the band’s next phase with Pobst on vocals.
