Enter Shikari release surprise album “Lose Your Self” with no advance rollout

The St Albans, England quartet have dropped their eighth studio album in full, with Rou Reynolds saying the record was meant to be heard as one complete piece.

British post-hardcore/electronicore band Enter Shikari, formed in St Albans, Hertfordshire, have surprise-released their new album “Lose Your Self”, putting the full 12-track record online and on physical formats without any singles or advance notice. The new album is out now through SO Recordings in digital and physical formats.

According to Rou Reynolds, the band’s lead vocalist and keyboardist, that was the whole point: “We’re delighted to present LOSE YOUR SELF, and give people the chance to hear a Shikari record like never before – as a cohesive whole,” he said, explaining that the band wanted listeners to hear the record in sequence instead of getting songs piece by piece. He added: “No lead up, no singles, and no explanation.”

Reynolds also said the band wanted to avoid the usual focus on chart positions after “A Kiss For The Whole World” gave them their first UK No. 1 album in 2023. This time, as he put it, “This is simply about the music being presented in a natural way.”

The album deals with “what it means to be a single individual in the grand scheme of atrocity and where we fit in as people,” while Reynolds described it as one of the band’s darkest and heaviest records so far, still keeping hope in the writing.

Lose Your Self is the St Albans band’s eighth studio album and includes the title track, “Dead In The Water”, “Demons”, “I Can’t Keep My Hands Clean”, and the three-part closing suite “Spaceship Earth”.
