Wrust may be on the way back. According to Vulture Thrust Metal Magazine, the Botswana death metal band’s possible return was signalled by frontman Starks Daemon, who posted a short statement that immediately drew attention from the African metal community.
“Wrust coming back is not a question anymore, the question is am I angry enough to deliver the brutality, insanity and fatality.”
Wrust formed in Botswana around 2000 and are widely regarded as one of the country’s pioneering extreme metal bands. Their place in the history of African metal is tied to a sound built from death metal, thrash and groove metal, along with live performances that helped push Botswana’s underground beyond its own borders.
Over the years, Wrust have played outside Botswana and shared stages with international names including Sepultura and Carcass. Their work also helped bring wider attention to a scene that would later become one of the most recognisable heavy music movements on the continent.
In recent years, the band had largely stepped away from active circulation, leaving fans unsure whether Wrust would return. Starks Daemon’s words now suggest that the question is no longer whether the band will come back, but what form that return will take.
