Severance releases “Mirrors of a Broken Reality”

The track was flagged earlier this month in an AFRICA.ROCKS interview, with Hawkins saying it’s “about psychosis”, “heavier than the first track”, with “no clean vocals”, and “deeper into deathcore”.

Cape Town solo project Severance has dropped a new single today, “Mirrors of a Broken Reality”, featuring Ross Sinclair of Aliens in Oceans.

Earlier this month, Severance’s Anthony Hawkins told AFRICA.ROCKS the next single was already in motion, and outlined what to expect.

“Next up is ‘Mirrors of a Broken Reality’ featuring Ross Sinclair of Aliens in Oceans. The track is about psychosis. It’s getting a full music video. It’s heavier than the first track. There are no clean vocals. It leans deeper into deathcore.”

He also explained why this collaboration was the right moment to go bigger on visuals.

“The next song has a proper music video, because it’s with an up-and-coming Cape Town band, Aliens in Oceans, and they live around the corner from me.”

The single lands today with Hawkins still running Severance as a one-man project, under his Osmium Sonics banner. The release credits list Osmium Sonics on mixing, mastering and sound design, with the video recorded by James Mitchell and edited by Aidan Crim.
