Emalyth Fest 2026 brings 14 South African heavy bands to Johannesburg

Emalyth Fest lines up 14 acts for a one-day hit of South Africa’s heavy underground, built for the pit but wide enough to swing from punk and hardcore into metalcore and darker, heavier edges.

Emalyth Fest returns to Sognage in Johannesburg, South Africa on 7 February 2026, with two stages and 14 bands pulled from across the country’s underground.

The premise is simple: A long day of loud music, merch stalls, giveaways, and a bill that swings from punk and hardcore into metalcore, groove, blackened death, prog deathcore, and heavy rock.

At the pit end, you’ve got Johannesburg hardcore from Grift, plus Pretoria’s No Closure flying the hardcore and metalcore flag, and Boksburg metalcore crew Walk These Skies on the heavier, hook-driven side. Doomtrigger come in from Stellenbosch with a metalcore base that dips into deathcore and groove when it needs extra weight. Goatboi sit in that modern hardcore lane too, built for sweat and forward momentum.

From there, the palette opens up. Human Nebula bring progressive deathcore from Pretoria, Surdus lean into symphonic groove metal from Johannesburg, and Thégøràth add melodic blackened death metal bite. Diverted Disorder land in the alternative metal and hard rock space, while MoshMallow’s “pinkcore” metalcore energy is made for a big room and a big reaction.

If you want air between the breakdowns, it’s there as well. Cantrel come in as a South African rock duo, and Crash and the Void bring Pretoria’s experimental heavy rock side, pulling from alternative rock and post-punk edges. Fading Gray round out the bill with Johannesburg metal. Drunk Wizard carry the punk and hardcore spirit through the lineup.

Tickets are already in phased pricing, listed at R150 (Phase 1), R250 (Phase 2), and R300 (Phase 3). If you want a clean snapshot of where heavy music is sitting in South Africa right now, this is a strong place to start.
