Human Nebula, fresh from the release of their new EP Lying Tongues and Dying Suns and the “Pantheon of Faces” video, have been confirmed as the winners of Wacken Metal Battle Africa 2026.
The South African band took the title at Sognage in Johannesburg, where the battle opened with MoshMallow from the host country and closed with Mozambique’s Ectogenesis. The event also included guest sets from Die Gemeente, after Dark Necropoly withdrew from their special guest slot, Swiss black metal band Vígljós, and 2025 African winners Halvar.
Winning Wacken Metal Battle Africa sends Human Nebula to Germany for the international Wacken Metal Battle final, held during Wacken Open Air 2026. The competition is connected to Wacken Open Air and brings winners from different countries and regions to the festival, with one global winner chosen on the Holy Ground.
For an African band, that means a route from the continental final to one of the biggest heavy metal festivals in the world. It puts Human Nebula alongside other Metal Battle winners from around the world and gives them an international stage in front of the Wacken audience.
AFRICA.ROCKS congratulates Human Nebula and wishes them the best of luck in Germany. May they make the most of the stage, the noise and the chance to show Wacken what African metal can bring.
