Winter Metal Mania Tour completes four-date Botswana run

The 17th edition of Winter Metal Mania finished its four-date Botswana run at the end of May, with Overthrust joined by Vígljós, Human Leather and several local bands.

The Overthrust Winter Metal Mania Tour concluded on 31 May after four consecutive shows across Botswana.

The tour opened at Eros Garden Bar in Tlokweng on 28 May, followed by dates at LM Garden Bar in Letlhakane, Hilltalk Night Club in Ghanzi and Adventure Bar in Maun.

Botswana death metal band Overthrust led the run after returning from recent European dates. They were joined by Swiss black metal band Vígljós and UK band Human Leather, with Remuda, Sedimo and PsychiatricNurseBand appearing across the local line-up.

According to Vulture Thrust Metal Magazine, the tour brought international and Botswana musicians together across the four stops, giving the visiting bands the chance to experience the country’s metal scene beyond a single festival appearance. The publication also described the run as an opportunity for musicians and audiences to meet, exchange experiences and form new connections between Botswana’s underground and bands from Europe.

Winter Metal Mania began in Ghanzi under the “Ride and March Against Poverty” banner and has since grown into one of Botswana’s longest-running metal events. The 2026 edition marked its 17th anniversary and expanded the usual gathering into a tour through four parts of the country.

AFRICA.ROCKS carries a full review of the Hilltalk Night Club show in Ghanzi, held on 30 May 2026, in the first issue of its digital magazine. The issue will be released on 16 June through ZINIO.
